I"m really glad you're working on this golden oldie, and I agree, Terran's
points are (as always) good ones!  And while it's good to be thinking about
all the extra things that you could add, it would be great to get the basic
functionality suggested in 2010(!) done and then look at enhancements
people want when they start using it, which will have to include ways to
make these optional.

I'd encourage you to add a comment about what you're doing to the
Launchpad bug to revive it and see what discussion, examples, etc., that
generates!
