Hi All,
I'd like to propose (can I make a motion?) that the evergreen-ils.org site
add information to the home page to raise awareness of two pieces of
legislation that have sparked a lot of controversy. While we cannot take
political stands on the site (because of our affiliation with SFC and our
501(c)3 status, we can raise awareness about this important issue.
I recommend we add a block of text prominently on the site (for tomorrow
only) stating:
*Please be aware that many websites have decided to "go dark" today to
raise awareness about two pieces of U.S. legislation, SOPA and PIPA. **Some
say these bills seek to fight piracy and protect intellectual freedom.
**Others
say the the bills "reduce freedom of expression, increases cybersecurity
risk, or undermines the dynamic, innovative global Internet." *
*
*
*As libraries and members of an online community, we felt it was important
to raise awareness of this issue. *
*
*
Can I get a second?
