Hi Shasta:

Thanks for responding to my question. By advanced search, do you mean search "Expert Search?" I tried a while back on 2.1 and have just tried it again on our newly updated 2.3 but nothing happens. Also could you elaborate how you search byte 18 coded as "i" in Evergreen?

Thanks again.

Bin Lin

Hi Bin Lin,
To search for RDA records in Evergreen you will have to go to the advanced
search and search on the 040 tag, subfield e for rda. Also all rda
records have leader byte 18 coded as "i" instead of "a".

Hello Evergreen community:

I wonder if there is a way to search RDA records in Evergreen?

Thanks,

There's already an SVF (aka, Record Attribute) for that fixed field. The
label is "Desc" and the name is "cat_form". It's not currently available
as a filter by default, but if you set the Filter flag to true for that in
the global record attribute definition editor, you can then add
"cat_form(i)" to your searches to constrain those searches to RDA records
-- always assuming that the records are correctly cataloged re LDR/18, and
that an "i" there is enough to find RDA records, which may not be the case.
 NOTE: not a cataloger...

As for 040e, I would assume that is expected to be non-repeatable. If that
assumption is correct, one could add a new SFV for that, but a reingest (at
least partial) or database-level priming would be required to pick up the
values.

Hi all,

We (Carrie Currie and I) at PALS had the idea for anyone who is going to the Evergreen Conference next week in Vancover, B.C. that maybe we should get together for an informal session to begin discussion about how we think cataloging, and more specifically, authorities works and could be changed/enhanced/improved on in the future.

We could also discuss the formation of a roadmp - i.e. what features we would want to see developed and when. Right now things with Authority development seem very haphazard, and it would be great to get more organization over this area.

Another possible discussion item could be the creation of an Evergreen Authorities Task Force to oversee this work, keep track of bugs, submit them to the Evergreen community, etc. It could be made up of mostly catalogers, and perhaps a few develops to translate catalog speak.

Our thought on potential meeting times could be Wednesday at 11 am (opposite the Web Team/Communications Committee meeting), or possibly during the time slot of 3 pm (and opposite Contributing Code to Evergreen). We think the Discoveries in Digital Humanities: How Evergreen Contributes session was cancelled.

Please let us know your thoughts on this idea and if you would be willing to meet during the conference and at which times.

Carrie Currie and I will both be at the Evergreen conference, the entire week.

Have you considered having this discussion during the Cataloging Working
Group meeting at 12 p.m. on Wednesday? Seems like a good fit.
