[Evergreen-catalogers] OPAC "format" field

Hello,

We add the local format codes Lisa listed in her message in MARC field 998, subfield "d" in all our cataloged bibliographic records. In the flat-text editor the field looks something like this: =998 \\$d <value>

Most of our record providers add this field and/or I use a Task in Terry Reese's MarcEdit program to add the field before we import the records. We also use OCLC Connexion macros that I created to add the 998 field before we export records to the catalog. Galen and the other wizards at ESI somehow made those values display our local format icons and format limits in our customized OPAC.

Hello-
KCLS puts specific material types in the 998 $d.
That is how we are able to specify DVD and VHS vs moving image.
How our catalogers put those values in there I will have to have them speak to that. As far as this librarian is concerned it is "magic."
At the bottom of the email are our current values for our material types- or format types.
I hope this helps.
Thanks
Lisa

Subject: [Evergreen-catalogers] OPAC "format" field

Greetings!
I'm running evergreen here in the heartlands and having an odd problem. The problem with solving this problem is that I'm not sure if it's a MARC record issue or a coding issue.. or something completely different. That shows you just how much knowledge of the inner workings of evergreen that I have. Apologies for my ignorance.
To put it simply, is there a way to display "VHS" or "Videorecording" or something of the kind for a vhs tape in the "format" field in the OPAC view of evergreen? The only thing I've manage to do, through manipulation of the MARC fixed fields (which shows up as what follows the "<leader> code in a MARC template) is display their format as a "moving image."
Help, please?
I have tried the general IRC channel, and although they are super helpful, no one seems to know quite what to do with this problem. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I have included a screenshot just in case my verbiage is unclear.

Thanks,
