[Evergreen-catalogers] Cataloguing training material for 3.0 Evergreen Web Client

I also used screencast-o-matic, but instead of editing the video later to add the text, I pre-typed up the explanations I wanted to insert. Then I would pause the recording, bring up the text page and restart the recording. The hardest part of that was knowing how long to stay on the text page to give them enough time to read it before pausing again and then going back to the next step of the demo. It seemed to work pretty well for our purposes.

Thanks and have a great day!
Chrisy

I've been using screencast-o-matic, too, then editing the videos in the VSDC free video editor to add text boxes to explain what is being demonstrated.

Hi Dana,
I've recently been experimenting with screencast-o-matic to create quick and easy demonstration videos. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a program like Camtasia or Captivate but it's free/cheap and easy :)

Hi Kathryn,

Thank you for your response!

I would definitely use GoToMeeting, it is a very handy tool but the problem is getting all staff to watch at the same time considering each one of us takes turns doing the circ desk. My CEO does not want to close the libraries (2 branches) for staff development day and we are a small system so each staff member does circ while they are at the library.
But you have given me an idea to perhaps record myself using the Web Client that I could save and send to everyone to watch when they are free so they can pause and continue where they left off. Now to figure out a program that does that…hmm.

Thank you!

Hi Dana,

Our system, Pioneer, is facing a similar situation.

Have you considered using the GoToMeeting web-conferencing platform? I've successfully used this at several staff training sessions as a way to present everyone with the same information at the same time, even if the attendees are in different locations.

Hope this suggestion helps. Good luck.

Subject: [Evergreen-catalogers] Cataloguing training material for 3.0 Evergreen Web Client

Hi everyone,

Staff at my library are currently using Evergreen Staff Client 3.0.2 but in September our Consortium has agreed that we all switch to the Web Client. The issue I am currently dealing with is trying to get everyone together to train them on cataloguing with the web client because it looks a bit different. However, I don’t think I’ll be able to because spring and summer programming starts soon so I am wondering if anyone has training instructions that I could use? Possibly? Please?

Thank you very much,
