[Evergreen-catalogers] With the heavy use of keyword by customers, is Authority Control needed?

We've put off doing any Authority Control since migrating a number of years
ago.
I need to work out the pro/con of doing a new dump every few years with an
authority control vendor or not updating what we have.
Our customers rarely (if ever) use (browse the catalog) which searches
against the authority control data. They heavily use (basic search) and
many times use (advanced search). But I'm sure the (see also) kind of
authority links are heavily used.
I'm wondering what resources other public libraries put towards authority
control.
I'm also wondering how you find blind references in order to remove them.
Looking forward to learning more where authority control is concerned.
