[Evergreen-catalogers] [EXTERNAL] Match Sets

Hi Millissa,

We use Match sets to upload vendor records from OverDrive and other e-resource vendors. We also get records from OCLC contract cataloging meant to overlay the OverDrive records. I built MarcEdit tasks that create a unique 035 field based on the titleID in the URL in the 856 field for both record sources. The new field looks like "=035 \\$a(odn)<file://$a(odn)> 5611500." When we import the OCLC records, they overlay the OverDrive records based on the 035$a. However, we don't want to overlay the OverDrive records with lesser-quality records from OCLC. I created a Match Set and assigned values in Match Set Quality Metrics to prevent records with Encoding levels "3" and "M" from overlaying the OverDrive records. I also had to specify "good" encoding levels by giving them a higher quality value. We also wanted to insert the OCLC number from the lesser-quality records into the OverDrive records. I created a special Merge/Overlay Profile to get the 035 field with the OCLC number and call it out it in the MARC File Upload "Insufficient Quality Fall-Through Profile." All the settings are saved in a template for easy re-use.

I've never considered using a 9xx field to do this, but it seems like it could work if qualifying records had one value in a 9xx and non-qualifying records had a different value. Then you could assign quality scores based on qualifying and non-qualifying values in the MARC field and subfield. I'd love to know what you build.

I hope this helps and I'm happy to try to answer any questions you may have.

Does anyone use Match sets to block certain records from qualifying for merging during a batch upload?

Currently our match sets only look at the 020 field so items can display as a match even if they are a different format (book club kit, Manga series, etc.). I was brainstorming an idea that when we have a unique record with a specific value in say a 9xx field that it wouldn't qualify for a match at all when we do a batch upload.

Anyone else have a situation like this or any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.
