Hi Mike, thanks!
Hmm I don't quite understand the backend of it all, but it is weird then that the 8XX being linked to an authority via $0 does seem to affect our hyperlink search in the way I describe. This seems to be the key for us whether the rest of the series gets pulled up in the search or not, depending if what is in those fields correctly match up.
If the keywords in the applicable 490 and 8XX subfields generally match up, but you don't link to an authority at all, the search can/will be successful, but can also pull up random records/not all records. I think that is what you are describing below, a general series keyword search. As soon as we link the authority though, the search comes up empty or just with the records that have been formatted exactly right. (I've tested this a lot and this seems to be the case pretty much every time for me)
My solution has been to make the 490 $a identical with the 800 $t or the 830 $a and manually linking the authority to them in all of the associated series bibs and that seems to pull the results I'm looking for. It pulls up the records I've made these changes to and only those records, all the books in a particular series.
I wonder if our OPAC has been adapted somehow differently, as I've never heard about this issue anywhere else... but I'm not very in the Evergreen loop!

Hi SImone,
The series links in the OPAC are not as smart today as you're giving them credit for, unfortunately. They are simply series:seriestitle "keyword" searches against the content of the 800 or 490 (though it's not quite that simple, as they're processed by the MARC21toMODS32 xslt, and pulled from the MODS relateItem element where the type attribute is "series" -- see:
https://www.loc.gov/standards/mods/mods-mapping-3-2.html#relateditem
for the details). So it depends on other records in the series matching each other in specific ways.
Perhaps it would be better to generate a browse link from the linked authority record instead, if one exists in the record, but that will require discussion of exactly how to fit it into the current infrastructure, and development of the code to do what's decided.
HTH,
