Jance. If patrons or staff used the browse list they would see the large number of entries for Judith A. Jance but unfortunately they don't seem to use that. I developed a workaround.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif">Headings in our bib records are linked to the authority records so any change to an authority record also updates the heading although there are some that need to be done manually. My workaround is to edit the authority record to add the alternate form of a name as a qualifier. Yes, I know I am "unauthorizing" authorized headings but it has cut down on complaints. I keep a list of the edited authorities so we can change back when we finally get the browse list cross-references. In our records Judith A. Jance's main entry looks like <i>Jance, Judith A.$q(J.A.). </i> </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif">Other problematic authors are those whose name is different due to change in marital status and Asian, Russian or Israeli names. We usually find out about these when a library reports that the name on the title page doesn't match the 100 field and ask for a correction. I spoke to were running into similar issues where a patron will do an author search for J.A. Jance, but return zero results because the authorized form of her name is Judith A. Jance. Most of them wouldn’t think to go to Browse the Catalog to look up her
up. I am wondering if there is a way to connect the authority information to the general search so that a patron could search J.A. Jance and get appropriate results. Or, if not, has anyone found a workaround that might help patrons find what they’re looking
