<div dir="ltr">Hi,<div><br></div><div><div>NOBLE is cataloging Vox Books. We have found it difficult to use MARC codes to clearly distinguish among some formats including the Vox books and playaways, as well as some other. Additionally, as you pointed out, the records are not coded consistently. So we have decided to use a local field to code the search format and the OPAC icon for these formats. This method has worked well for us so far. It helps that Christine Morgan has also created a nice format icon for the Vox books, among others. She would be happy to share the icons if others are interested.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Beth</div></div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Fri, Aug 9, 2019 at 12:40 PM Janet Schrader <<a href="mailto:jschrader@cwmars.org" target="_blank">jschrader@cwmars.org</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><div dir="ltr"><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif"><p style="margin:0px 0px 6px;font-family:Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(29,33,41);font-size:14px">Hi Catalogers,</p><p style="margin:0px 0px 6px;font-family:Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(29,33,41);font-size:14px">Always nice to get a puzzle on a Friday afternoon.</p><p style="margin:0px 0px 6px;font-family:Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(29,33,41);font-size:14px">I have a question about cataloging Vox books and Wonderbooks. These are books with built in audiobook player attached to a hardcover book. Because we download records from OCLC we are getting various formats. Some show as CD audiobook, some as an e-book, and some are cataloged like Playaways which have the format 'digital media player' in our ILS. </p><p style="margin:6px 0px;font-family:Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(29,33,41);font-size:14px">At the request of one library in our network I've been changing the format to 'digital media player' for ones they own, Vox<span class="gmail-m_-4932407107198222325gmail-m_3003711192878691030gmail-text_exposed_show" style="display:inline;font-family:inherit"> books or Wonder books that other libraries own have a variety of formats. How should these be cataloged in MARC. What goes into the 006, 007, and 008 fields? I am trying to avoid e-book as these are not online resources bu Evergreen seems to pick up the code for electronic resource in the 006 field and combine it with record type for print.</p><p style="margin:0px 0px 6px;font-family:inherit">Do any in this group catalog these? I would like some consistency (I know, hobgoblins at all that) and right now it's pointing to audio even though the book appears to be the primary format. The 300 field also varies. The Vox books say 'audio enabled book' or describe the book + 'audio enabled narration' The Wonderbooks actually have '1 Wonderbook' as we now can use a common term for the description.</p><p style="margin:0px 0px 6px;font-family:inherit">Is there a way in Evergreen for both 'Book' and 'Digital media player" to display in the OPAC as formats?</p><p style="margin:0px 0px 6px;font-family:inherit"><br></p><p style="margin:0px 0px 6px;font-family:inherit"><br></p><p style="margin:0px 0px 6px;font-family:inherit">Thoughts anyone?</p><p style="margin:0px 0px 6px;font-family:inherit"><br></p><p style="margin:0px 0px 6px;font-family:inherit">Janet</p></div></div><div><div dir="ltr" class="gmail-m_-4932407107198222325gmail-m_3003711192878691030gmail_signature"><div dir="ltr"><div><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><span><div dir="ltr" style="margin-left:0pt"><table style="border:none;border-collapse:collapse"><colgroup><col width="180"><col width="326"></colgroup><tbody><tr style="height:102pt"><td style="vertical-align:top;padding:5pt"><p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.2;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-family:Arial;color:rgb(0,0,0);background-color:transparent;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/bSd7D8g3VXi0D27vqlwdEBAUuPEYzFQNZVljNyCgRnefpl8eEyjF52SOpmhvBVlZ8DfMuAUvg24dRX1CG2tFVlm6VpHVAPOVJ4vho7b3jgZ--7YybCEFu-wJkv-y2Jg1dYKRYcLA" width="151" height="113" style="border: none;"></span></p></td><td style="vertical-align:top;padding:5pt"><br><p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.2;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-family:"Proxima Nova";color:rgb(0,0,0);background-color:transparent;font-weight:700;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap">Janet Schrader</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.2;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt"><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:"Proxima Nova";color:rgb(0,0,0);background-color:transparent;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap">Bibliographic Services Supervisor | CW MARS</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.2;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt"><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:"Proxima Nova";color:rgb(0,0,0);background-color:transparent;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap">67 Millbrook Street, Suite 201, Worcester, MA 01606</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.2;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt"><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:"Proxima Nova";color:rgb(0,0,0);background-color:transparent;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap">P: 508-755-3323 x 325 | F: 508-757-7801</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.2;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt"><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Roboto;color:rgb(0,0,0);background-color:transparent;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap"></span></p><hr><p></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.2;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt"><a href="mailto:jschrader@cwmars.org" target="_blank"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-family:"Proxima Nova";color:rgb(17,85,204);background-color:transparent;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap">jschrader@cwmars.org</span></a><span style="font-size:11pt;font-family:"Proxima Nova";color:rgb(0,0,0);background-color:transparent;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap"> || </span><a href="http://www.cwmars.org/" target="_blank"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-family:"Proxima Nova";color:rgb(17,85,204);background-color:transparent;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap">http;//cwmars.org</span></a></p></td></tr></tbody></table></div></span><span><span><div dir="ltr" style="margin-left:0pt"><br></div></span></span></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div>
