Hi Catalogers,

Always nice to get a puzzle on a Friday afternoon.

I have a question about cataloging Vox books and Wonderbooks. These are
books with built in audiobook player attached to a hardcover book. Because
we download records from OCLC we are getting various formats. Some show as
CD audiobook, some as an e-book, and some are cataloged like Playaways
which have the format 'digital media player' in our ILS.

At the request of one library in our network I've been changing the format
to 'digital media player' for ones they own, Vox books or Wonder books that
other libraries own have a variety of formats. I've looked at call numbers
and shelving locations and these vary from Multi-media to Picture Book.

Now to the question. How should these be cataloged in MARC. What goes into
the 006, 007, and 008 fields? I am trying to avoid e-book as these are not
online resources bu Evergreen seems to pick up the code for electronic
resource in the 006 field and combine it with record type for print.

Do any in this group catalog these? I would like some consistency (I know,
hobgoblins at all that) and right now it's pointing to audio even though
the book appears to be the primary format. The 300 field also varies. The
Vox books say 'audio enabled book' or describe the book + 'audio enabled
narration' The Wonderbooks actually have '1 Wonderbook' as we now can use a
common term for the description.

Is there a way in Evergreen for both 'Book' and 'Digital media player" to
display in the OPAC as formats?

Thoughts anyone?
