Sorry for being late to the party, I have been in meetings all day until now.
On the specific question: Anything that allows our mPALS voices to be heard is a good thing.
On the general "member plus" discussion: I have been frustrated but silent on this issue since Michigan when it was decided for me that LYRASIS is not a library support network and I was ex-officio. In fact, NELINET and LYRASIS, which was the result of it's merger are board-run non-profits which do a great many things. I was hired specifically to provide elbow grease to a cornucopia of Member initiated Open Source projects which include the Maine Balsam Evergreen installation. I see my function as "clearly" in the grey cloud of member supported not for profits that are still defining their roles in this community. Like a lot of others, LYRASIS is struggling with it's place in the consulting/vendor/member support landscape. Until recently, I have not really had a vote there either.
I view part of my role on the communications sub-committee as assisting in forming effective communication channels between the Foundation and the developers, vendors, and "member support plus" contributors that insure prosperity and recognizes the realities of the open source as a business model. We need to support and encourage that model to make Evergreen stronger, in my opinion.
I'm really glad this discussion as come up since we need to make sure we encourage contributions in whatever form they come to us.
