Unless there is more discussion I will assume at this point I can work in that direction. So, related question, do we want to look at the ideal scenario of popping up another wordpress page on the same server or should I look at a separate site and getting the domain pointed that way?

I can admin wordpress myself just fine and I don't think we would take that many resources - a few pages, a bunch of posts as we get close, a few uploaded documents here and there (schedules, etc...).

There are already enough web places where Evergreen info is scattered. Maybe add a year to the domain, like se2013.evergreen-ils.org? Do you know what you'll use to build the site?
In my perfect world, we would have one dedicated subdomain, something like conference.evergreen-ils.org or events.evergreen-ils.org, and any "official" event, be that a conference, a regional event, a hack-fest, etc., would just go on there in some standardized form. Theoretically, this could be less confusing and save organizers time and money.
But, I'd rather keep community sites together. Would there be an objection to using a subdomain like southeast.open-ils.org and pointing it at a word press site for the conference? I don't think we have a policy for these uses that are community but parts of the community, at least regional in this case.
