[OPEN-ILS-DEV] Firefox and installing patches

Hey all,
The firefox that came with the gentoo installation keeps freezing and I have to keep closing it down to regain control of the system.  

I'm new to linux on the whole and I want to know how to install patches via the terminal.
Can anyone help me?
