I hear ya Dan.
But it's funny since I'm already with the gentoo forums, but my brain wasn't working too well at that moment :)
AFter I posted the message, I noticed in my inbox a reply from a gentoo forum and realised I had the wrong forum, but it was too late. DOn't worry, I'll have the gentoo forum give me the proper details I need.

For Gentoo, something like:
# emerge sync
# emerge --deep --update --ask world
might be what you're looking for (if you want to update the entire
distribution).
