Ah, this is a standard problem to encounter when you're updating from
2007.0 to a recently synced repository. I think this would affect
anyone doing an emerge --deep --update world, actually.
Remove the aspell package, install the aspell-en package, and you'll be fine.
I'll add a note that you might run into this problem, and how to work
around it, in the wiki. Thanks!
