It (moving input cleansing from client to server side) has been
implemented as of changesets 10805 (trunk -
http://svn.open-ils.org/trac/ILS/changeset/10805) and 10806 (rel_1_2 -
http://svn.open-ils.org/trac/ILS/changeset/10806).

Per Bill's insight, in rel_1_2 we continue to strip backslashes on the
client side because the Perl JSON parser used in OpenSRF 0.9 isn't
happy when fed backslashes.
