[OPEN-ILS-DEV] ***SPAM*** Odd Mac OS X staff client weirdness

I have two issues, possibly related, but I could use some assistance
in diagnosing the problem.

Evergreen 1.4.0.4 installed on Ubuntu 8.04; we're still investigating
the system and planning how we're going to set stuff up, so I'm still
messing around with fairly basic things. I can start the Mac OS X
staff client fine, logging into our Evergreen server. I log in with an
admin account, and I want to see the local system administration page.

But when I go to Admin > Local Administration, there seems to be a one
to two-second delay before the page appears, and then the client
immediately crashes.

In the console, where my Javascript messages go, I see this:

> Jul 23 14:15:43 mac [0x0-0x36a36a].open_ils_staff_client[53393]:

I'm willing to share the crash report, if it's useful. I've tried
killing and restarting Evergreen and regenerating the web pages via
autogen, thinking it might help, but no dice.

The reason why I'm trying to get into this page is so I can get into
the reports, which I have never been able to do. I cannot get anything
to happen when I click on the reports link on the Local Administration
page. I was seeing errors regarding SSL in the apache2 error logs:

> [Thu Jul 23 14:15:05 2009] [info] [client 10.133.4.20] Connection to
> child 0 established (server localhost:443)
> [Thu Jul 23 14:15:05 2009] [info] Seeding PRNG with 648 bytes of
> entropy
> [Thu Jul 23 14:15:05 2009] [info] Initial (No.1) HTTPS request
> received for child 0 (server localhost:443)
> [Thu Jul 23 14:15:06 2009] [info] [client 10.133.4.20] (70007)The
> timeout specified has expired: SSL input filter read failed.
> [Thu Jul 23 14:15:06 2009] [info] [client 10.133.4.20] Connection
> closed to child 0 with standard shutdown (server localhost:443)

... but it isn't clear how to fix the error. Googling has produced no
helpful information. I do have an SSL certificate generated in my name
that isn't approved, but does work (and generates the standard errors
when I run the client about someone trying to intercept my
communications).

FYI: The Windows client shows the Local Administration page fine and
the Reports page fine. It's only the Mac client that seems to have the
problems.
