Openils seems to start OK but...apache fails to start.

If I try to start apache with /etc/init.d/apache2 start

   The error returned is:
      Segmentation fault
      Action 'start' failed.
The Apache error log may have more information.
     failed!

apache/error.log contains warnings only.

Starting via apache2ctl start returns:

[Sat Oct 30 20:49:16 2010] [warn] NameVirtualHost *:80 has no VirtualHosts
*** glibc detected *** /usr/sbin/apache2: free(): invalid next size
(fast): 0xb9464e38 ***

and I have to ctrl+c to stop it.

This is in the sys.log, messages and kern.log

Is this a mis-configured perl library?
