Hello Jason, fellow classmates ~ nice to virtually meet you all. I
have met Dan in the flesh, as he is the project manager for the Conifer
Evergreen project that McMaster's part of. I may have even met you face
to face too Deanna, at CODI?
I can be available for training Mon.-Fri. 8:00 - 6:00 EST. I noticed
though, that we aren't all in the eastern time zone. Evenings &
weekends could be do-able, but not my first choice.
McMaster University is a medium size university (approx. 25,000
students). As I said above we're part of the Conifer project with
Laurention U. and U. of Windsor.
My title is: Collection Applications Support Specialist, which means I
support any applications we use to keep track of or make available our
information resources. Currently the applications we're using are:
Horizon
Verde
SFX
Endeca.
Support as in:
- Sys. admin. for the staff modules of Horizon (Acq., Cataloguing,
Circ., Reserve, Serials control). We're a rather big organization so
someone else is our server administrator, and yet another person
handles admin. for our Horizon Information Portal & Endeca.
- Training & helping e-resource staff with Verde & SFX.
- Advising the Endeca user interface group on what info. & where they
can get it from the back-end of our ILS.
- Testing and training for any new Collection application we get.
- Being a shoulder to cry on for frustrated staff.
My boss (John Fink), our Digital Technologies Development Librarian, is
handling the install & server end of our Evergreen implementation.
I'm mostly interested in learning the django admin. interface for
myself - But - I must also know enough about how to do anything staff
will need to do to be able to help train & 'support' them, with
documentaion, manuals & a sympathetic ear. I'll also have to know
enough about the Evergreen OPAC to make some recommendations about
integrating parts of it with Endeca.
Well, wasn't that long? Again, nice to meet you all. karen f.
