[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Introduction - new installation

Yes Larry, Paul is right (to the best of my knowledge). PINES runs
their system on Debian. I believe there has also been some fairly
good success on Gentoo.

There is a thread in progress on the open-ils-dev list regarding a
VMWare image. Once the contributor is satisfied to release it, you
should be able to copy from the image to a "live" machine (like it
sounded like you would with a LiveCD. VMWare has a free "player" you
can use to use pre-built images. However, before you use that, you
may want to consider the potential security issues.

To this point, automated installation has taken slightly lesser
priority than actually building the ILS. However, with the inrush of
users, I'd be willing to bet priority increases on this part.

There has been some contrib work on OS-Specific installations. If you
search the -dev archives, you should find a reference to a Gentoo
ebuild and a debian deb (although I believe the debian image is
grossly out of date).

Well, the only place with Wifi down here in Myrtle beach is by the
outside pool, and I'm in shorts with 55-degree weather. Time to get
some clothes on!

Talk to you later, and I look forward to working with you!
