Just a quick question (I haven't been totally following the discussion so
this may be a stupid question)...are you guys using an OCLC Authorization
number to connect?

I tried telneting to the port, and it says
Connected to ilsweb.loc.gov
Escape character is '^]'.
So I am guessing it's working

Oh geez -- yes, thanks for the catch, Jason. Lack of sleep affecting my
brain.
If you want to try telnet (to confirm that access to port 7090 is
actually working), you'll have to emerge netkit-telnetd first:
# emerge netkit-telnetd
# telnet z3950.loc.gov 7090
