Hi B,

Glad that you're interested in trying out Evergreen!

Evergreen has three parts:
* OPAC
* staff client
* server

OPAC
You can try out the OPAC with any web browser.
Demo version:
http://demo.gapines.org/opac/en-US/skin/default/xml/index.xml
Georgia PINES OPAC:
http://gapines.org/opac/en-US/skin/default/xml/index.xml
<http://gapines.org/opac/en-US/skin/default/xml/index.xml>

Staff Client
You can install the Staff Client most easily on Windows. (There's also
source code for linux and an untested Mac version).
Download from http://open-ils.org/downloads.php
<http://open-ils.org/downloads.php>  You'll use demo.gapines.org as the
server for the staff client, and use a sample user account (Usernames
and passwords are at http://open-ils.org/downloads/demo_users.txt )

Evergreen Server
The Evergreen server runs on linux. There are multiple ways of
installing it.

VMWare image
Using a VMWare image is probabaly the easiest way to try out the server.
See http://www.open-ils.org/downloads.php . Prerequisite software:
appropriate linux distribution (Debian, Gentoo or Ubantu) and virtual
machine software such as http://www.vmware.com/products/player/
<http://www.vmware.com/products/player/>

Script-based installation from source code
Once you have linux installed, you can try John Schmidt's Evergreen
installer script. The script has been tested with Debian (Etch release)
as of February, and may work with other linux distributions as well. See
http://open-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=jaschmidt:evergreen_installer
Prerequisite software: linux (preferably Debian Etch) (The script itself
installs other prerequisite software.)

>From Source Code
If, instead, you want to install Evergreen 'from scratch', you can find
generic installation information at
http://open-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=generic_installation_informatio
n
<http://open-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=generic_installation_informati
on>
Additional documentation is available for Debian, Gentoo, and Ubuntu
distributions:
http://open-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=server_installation
<http://open-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=server_installation>

Prerequisite software for installing from source code: linux (best
documentation for Debian, Gentoo, or Ubuntu)
You can find more information about the prerequisite software at
http://open-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=generic_installation_informatio
n . Currently that list has these prerequisites:

1.
	Installing PostgreSQL
<http://open-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=installing_postgresql>
2.
	Installing Apache2
<http://open-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=installing_apache2>
3.
	Installing mod_perl2
<http://open-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=installing_mod_perl2>
4.
	Perl Modules
<http://open-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=perl_modules>
5.
	Ejabberd <http://open-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=ejabberd>
6.
	Spidermonkey
<http://open-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=spidermonkey>
7.
	libdbi <http://open-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=libdbi>

General linux advice
If you're not already running linux, the Open-ils-dev archives suggest
that Debian is most popular among developers.You can get a free download
of the current stable release of Debian, called Etch, from the
debian.org website:
Installer:  http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/debian-installer/
Manual: http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/installmanual

I'd suggest Open-ils-dev for questions with the server, and
Open-ils-general for other questions. Also check the listserv archives.
