I can't think of other major categories, but I can think of a few examples
of specific tools. While not exactly add-ons, here are some things that a
few libraries have integrated into their catalog or library website.
Simon Fraser University (Burnaby, BC, Canada) has some open source tools
including a serials management tool (CUFTS), link resolver (GODOT), and
federated search for databases (dbWIZ): http://researcher.sfu.ca/cufts
Kete is a collaborative digital collection/repository kinda thing, developed
Horowhenua Library Trust and Katipo Communications in New Zealand (the same
collaboration who started Koha): http://kete.net.nz/ I can't find it on
their site now but Auckland City Library will be using Kete for a local
history, and/or Chinese history digtal collection. Digital NZ uses Kete as a
container for users to submit digital stuff to the Digital NZ collection
that is not already online.
I'd love to read your research, can you post a link back here when you're
done?
Cheers,
tara
