I'm testing with Evergreen trunk as of today, so keep that in mind for
comparison purposes...

When I search for "chrom" in the title (Acquisitions -> General Search
-> Search for line items -> LIA - Title of work -> contains -> chrom),
I get back results for "Chromatic". I get the same result if I enter
"chr", so it's not just stemming. The key might be the use of the
"contains" operator instead of the "is" operator?

Searching by "LIA -> Author of work" using the "contains" operator
works for me for truncated search terms.

Not until now :) So perhaps this is fixed already, now that we're at
beta2 (with beta3 expected next Monday).
