Yikes it's that serious , I had no idea.  I know nothing about Authorities and how it is supposed to work in Evergreen. Is it using string matching to effect the changes? Or does it use a linked data model?

I therefore consider authorities to be completed busted, particularly since updating linked authorities can wipe out bibliographic records. My advice is stay away from authorities until these bugs are resolved. This very likely goes all the way back to 2.2, but I'll defer from targeting those series and leave it to someone running 2.2 and 2.3 to confirm the bugs there.
