A good starting point for you and others who wish to apply to be a GSoC 2012 student for the Evergreen project is the main GSoC home page [1]. There, you should carefully read the guidelines and timeline for applying to participate.

We have created a list of ideas [2] for possible projects for Evergreen, but you can feel free to come up with a wholly new idea if you think it would be useful to Evergreen's users. One thing I do want to emphasize to applicants must provide as part of their application a patch or Git branch that offers an improvement to Evergreen such as a small improvement or bugfix.

Consequently, I encourage all potential applicants to get started learning about Evergreen and participating in the community sooner rather than later -- Evergreen's internals do have a bit of a learning curve, so if you find yourself trying to put a patch together at 18:45 UTC on April 6th, you will likely find that you will not have enough time to submit a good application.
