Hi Evergreen General!

We have some improvements in mind regarding the Serials module, and
would like to hear some feedback from the General mailing list as well.
We are planning to hold a Serials roadmapping workshop/meeting
during/before the conference.
I have pasted our correspondence in the Developers mailing list after
this message.

The link to participate is here!

Hello list,

One improvement we would like to see is the merging of the two views (I'm sure this has already been raised). We currently prefer Alternate as we use routing lists. We also have asked for a customized routing list to reflect the one we currently have. This will be particular to our library, but we are certainly willing to submit to the community.

A serials related get together is a great idea.

Thanks Leb for starting this wonderful thread!

I promised to send the key issues we need to solve and here is an
excerpt from the HIGHLY classified email I sent to Messrs. Fogle-Weekley
and Scott:

STARTING TRANSMISSION

We were browsing the git log with Pasi and found out that lately you two
have made a lot of contributions to the Serials module.
This made us to believe that you are currently working on Serials and
you might have some kind of an idea about the Serials development roadmap.

We did some testing sessions last December to identify issues with EG's
Serials module. We got a selection of issues that are missing or we are
unable to modify our processes to suit.
I would like to compare your goals with ours and find out if we can
somehow align our targets.

The key issues:
-We need to be able to target holds for serials in acquisition as soon
as we know they will be ordered. So holds for item predictions.
-In Serials control view, we need to be able to filter the HUGE
predicted items group atleast by the org_unit.
-We need to be able to add Marc-fields (or some kind of searchable tags)
to specific issue numbers. We might have a "Christmas special" issue, or
a "Housing heating" special issue.
-We need to be able to search for specific issue number and for possible
tags/MARC-fields associated. Issues might have multiple names as their
names can change during their existence.
-We need to revert the way issues are displayed in the TPAC. Issues need to be displayed number-first instead of org_unit-first as this is more logical to our public masses.
-We need to make numbers holdable like we can make items holdable on multiple levels, so our patrons can get the most available issue from the closest org_unit delivered to them.

These are the identified targets but certainly, considering the
architecture of the Serials module, some might be impossible to implement.

P.S. See you in Vancouver!
P.P.S. We are arriving to Vancouver on the 3rd of April, so we can certainly meet before the conference.

I've recently heard from Olli-Antti Kivilahti, who along with Pasi Kallinen has identified some of his institution's most highly desired serials features.

I'll let them respond here with more detail if they're ready to do so now, but I also wanted to take the opportunity to organize some kind of serials-related get-together at the Evergreen conference.

Let's have all available past, present, and future Evergreen serials developers come together to discuss what we can agree on, design-wise, and let's also talk about what we think we can get done, given that none of us are in a position to work on serials development full-time at the moment. As far as I know nobody out there is funding any specific serials development work on Evergreen right now, but that's not to say that some work can't happen anyway.

Also, I think we should semi-formally make ourselves available at some appointed time and place to hear questions, concerns, and feature wishlists from serials users at the conference. There has been a significant increase in the number of sites using Evergreen serials since last year's conference, and it's a good opportunity to identify the most pressing needs of the broader community.

Feedback about all of these things are also welcome right here on the mailing list.

Regards,
