[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] requirements for successfully running Evergreen

Hello,
We are in the process of migrating to Evergreen from Sirsi/Dynix Unicorn, and I am having difficulty sorting out what the actual requirements are to run Evergreen successfully. We are installing it on our own server (which is offsite) through a Linux firewall that our county IT department built. The size of our "pipe" into the server is 2 megabytes. The county IT department says this is sufficient, but the company we've contracted with to help us through the migration says they are experiencing slow downs and dropped transactions which indicate we need more. There are also differences between what the two groups are saying is required for memory on the server in order to allow Evergreen the space it needs to "swap" information.
Can anyone shed any light on this for me? Maybe someone who had the system crash on them and then upgraded either their connection or their memory and were able to run Evergreen successfully at that point?
Thanks!
