Community Partnerships Lead to New Development Projects
by Kathy Lussier

BC Libraries Cooperative and the Massachusetts Library Network Cooperative
have contracted with Equinox Software, Inc. for a development project that
will provide more flexibility on how Evergreen sites can use format icons in
the catalog.

The Multi-valued Record Attributes and Controlled Record Attributes
(MVF/CRA) development project will allow sites to use different icons to
easily distinguish between books and e-books, for example, or between VHS,
Blu-ray, and DVD.

In addition, BC Libraries Cooperative has contracted with Equinox on a
related development project that will return meta-record holds to the
Template Toolkit catalog. This development will give users the ability to
choose acceptable formats and editions when placing a hold.

The MVF/CRA project is a great example of how development can happen when
Evergreen sites both large and small pull together to pool their resources.
Several community partners joined together to fund this project:

*	BC Libraries Cooperative
*	Howe Library, Hanover, NH
*	Massachusetts Library Network Cooperative
*	Rodgers Memorial Library, Hudson, NH
*	A group of libraries from the Evergreen Indiana project: Butler
Public Library, Carnegie Public Library of Steuben County,
Centerville-Center Township Public Library, Flora Public Library, Hagerstown
- Jefferson Township Library, Newton County Public Library, Noble County
Public Library, Perry County Public Library, Plainfield-Guilford Township
Public Library, Princeton Public Library, Union County Public Library, and
Westfield Washington Public Library.

The MVF/CRA project is not just about icons. The infrastructure improvements
that come with the MVF/CRA project can lay the foundation for future
improvements to MARC batch import and RDA support.

This project also lays the foundation for improved meta-record holds in
Evergreen.

The full specs for both projects are available at

2013 DIG Hack-A-Way
by Yamil Suarez

On November 15th several DIG members got together for our second DIG
hack-a-way. We had a group of folks working from Boston, Massachusetts, as
well as individuals working remotely from Georgia, Michigan, and Indiana.

Here is a list of folks that participated...

Kate Butler - Rodgers Memorial Library (New Hampshire)
Ruth Frasur - Hagerstown - Jefferson Township Library (Indiana)
Erica Rohlfs - ESI (Georgia)
Ben Shum - Bibliomation (Connecticut)
Remington Steed - Calvin College (Michigan)
June Caola-Stokoe - C/WMARS (Massachusetts)
Yamil Suarez - Berklee (Massachusetts)
Jessica Venturo - Bibliomation (Connecticut)

A few days before the hack-a-way, DIG hosted an online training on DIG basic
information and how to use AsciiDoc, our preferred way to format the
official EG documentation.

The hour long training video training can be watched on demand through
Youtube, and if you are curious you can view it here...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uX1NtlJRfU

During the hack-a-way we worked on training members how to set up their
computers to run the AsciiDoc software. We also found new ways to find what
old official documentation needs to be converted to AsciiDoc. Finally,
individuals worked on updating several sections of documentation including
cataloging, holds, serials, and library settings.

For a longer recap you can check this post to the DIG mailing list...

Thanks again to all those that participated, and looking forward to
doing it again in 2014.

Equinox continues to have monthly community days:

November: http://blog.esilibrary.com/2013/11/15/november-14-stomping-day/

TPAC compliance

Equinox has been working with Natural Resources Canada to bring the
Evergreen OPAC into WCAG compliance. Most of this work should make the 2.6
release.

Other development

Equinox has been working with other community partners on development
projects that should also make the 2.6 release. The return of meta record
holds in the TPAC, a drop-down fixed field editor in the MARC editor, and
MVF/CRA (the "icon project"). You can read more about MVF/CRA here:
http://blog.esilibrary.com/2013/12/23/happy-holiday-development/

We are happy that the following Equinox staff had their proposals accepted
for the Evergreen conference program: Galen Charlton, Grace Dunbar, Bill
Erickson, Jason Etheridge, Lebbeous Fogle-Weekley, Angela Kilsdonk, Erica

NC Cardinal Update
by David Green

After extensive testing by the State Library and consortium members, we
upgraded to Evergreen 2.4.3. The upgrade had crucial improvements to the
Acquisitions module, given the December migration of Cumberland County.

Using four profiles created by the Cataloging Committee (de-duplication,
authority, RDA, and machine/LOC matching), a major project to enhance the
catalog was completed in December

. 100% of records updated with authority control and RDA
enhancements

. 17% of monograph bibliographic records matched and merged

. 7.4% of AV bibliographic records matched and merged

We are pleased to announce the launch of the The Nest, a LibGuide site
designed specifically for staff at NC Cardinal member libraries. The Nest
hosts general information on the program, the latest news from committees,
instructional materials, and a forum.
