[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Updating the Roster of Evergreen Libraries

Hi all,

First of all, kudos to Erica for volunteering to update the roster and 
for all of the work she's been doing on the wiki over the past few 
months! I just took a look at the roster and see that she's been making 
a lot of updates already.

When the web team first started planning the WordPress conversion last 
summer, we did have a discussion about the ideas that came out of the 
earlier web planning processes that we would like to see implemented in 
the WordPress site. The member/library directory was one of the ideas we 
were interested in carrying forward. At the time, we were focusing on 
getting the WordPress conversion done, but Steve Wills also showed some 
interest in finding a WordPress plugin that might be able to support a 
directory like the one on RSCEL. I don't know if he has had much time to 
pursue it, but he did mention a WordPress plugin called BuddyPress that 
could be used for member profiles and also had a Google maps feature. I 
also just did a quick Google search and found the Business Directory 
plug-in http://wordpress.org/plugins/business-directory-plugin/, which 
also looks like it might fit the bill and integrates with a Google Maps 
module.

There was talk at the most recent EOB meeting to bring back the 
Evergreen libraries map, and, to do so, I think it would be important 
that it be tightly integrated with whatever is used to maintain the 
library directory.

I'm sure there are other good options out there for anyone with 
WordPress skills who is willing to take on this project. I can re-add 
this topic to the agenda for the next web team meeting on January 16. If 
anyone interested in taking charge of this project, feel free to join us 
in the meeting (actually, feel free to join us for any reason) or, if 
you don't want to wait, I don't think we have to wait for a meeting to 
start looking at options.

In the meantime, though. I also think it's important that everyone 
either update their information on the Evergreen wiki page or send any 
new information to Erica so that she can update the information for you. 
If you don't have a wiki account, you can get one by sending an e-mail 
to docs at evergreen-ils.org <mailto:docs at evergreen-ils.org>. The 
information on that page has been getting dusty for some time now, and I 
would hate for the updating to wait while we hash out a longer-term 
solution.
