This is by using the "sumout" feature.

In the Header: You checked out <span sumout="sum1" ></span> items

In the Line Item: <span sum="sum1" style="display: none">1<span>

Subject: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] receipt count of items

Another receipt question.

I've changed out receipt output to an unordered list, which looks great, but
I'd still like to get a count of the total items listed. I'll be using this
for the 'Checkout' and 'Items Out' receipts. Ideally, it would be a total I
could drop in the header, so it would read like this (with [#] being a count
of the items listed):

Today, you checked out these [#] items:

OR

Here are the [#] items on your account:

I've been googling my heart out today, but can't find anything on this. But
there must be a way! I swear I saw it done at a conference in the past..
