[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Information Requests - websited

Hi,

I used a simple google search widget and modified it to give users a choice of searching the web or searching our catalog. You can see the result at www.granville.lib.nc.us. The "search for materials" tab searches our Evergreen catalog.

WordPress is a very simple platform - if you enjoy learning new software. While it isn't completely intuitive, it is much more so than HTML, and the templates that you can purchase automate the process even more.

We (York County also) are moving to a new Wordpress website. We don't
imagine any interaction between the web site and Evergreen other than
search widgets but in theory it's possible to script interaction between
them (pull over hours to populate pages and things like that). It's likely
to be more hassle than it's worth unless you have someone sitting around
who enjoys those kinds of scripting/coding projets though.

Our library (and City) uses a Drupal site – which is currently being revamped, though not yet publically visible.

Our page has a search box and link to My Account and Advanced search: http://www.cityofhomer-ak.gov/library. These will be much more visible in the new version – bigger, better. We moved to Evergreen after this website was created, so it’s not very pretty.

We use the catalog to create many widgets embedded within our site: http://www.cityofhomer-ak.gov/library/recommended-reads-summerhpl-2015

It's very easy to make a search widget that allows you to start an Evergreen search from your library's website. We've done it at our library with Wordpress, but it should be equally easy in any system that will let you write HTML.

Our search form is slightly more complicated in that it allows you to choose whether to search our website or the catalog. This requires some Javascript and some some server-side scripting (in case someone has Javascript disabled) but is still pretty easy. You can see our website at http://forbeslibrary.org/. I've also included a screenshot of the "widget".
