Happy Friday Evergreeners!

I'm sending along a couple of updates on search development work that I
first mentioned to the community in an e-mail back in June.
http://markmail.org/message/zwd4pg24glxxmq7w

MassLNC contracted with Equinox to perform investigatory work to test
the feasibility of eliminating staged search from Evergreen and analyze
potential optimizations in newer PostgreSQL releases. The results of
that testing are in the attached report. In short, Equinox found that
removing staged search using the method described in this document will
lead to a more complete set of search results and should be as fast or
faster than the existing code base. The biggest performance gains were
seen with more selective searches.

I thought others would be interested in seeing the results of this work.

I also have more good news to report. MassLNC has been able to secure
the funding required to complete phase 3 of our search work - the search
and display infrastructure project. This project will 'kill the blob',
implement the Metabib Display fields project, and also bring us
highlighted search results. The Consortium of Ohio Libraries (COOL), C/W
MARS, and Georgia PINES is helping us fund this project. Many thanks to
our funding partners for helping us bring these important search
improvements to Evergreen!

This project will be done after the elimination of staged search
development is completed.

Have a nice weekend!

Kathy
