I spoke with several people at the Evergreen Conference last week about
scanning barcodes in the web client using the camera on Android mobile
devices. There are several free apps available that install alternate
keyboards that include built in scanners. The one I have installed on my
phone is this one:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nikosoft.nikokeyboard&hl=en_US

Once you have it enabled, you click inside any field (to pull up the
virtual keyboard) and then click on the barcode button. It launches the
camera/scanner and as soon as it recognizes a barcode it enters it into the
field that your cursor was in.

If any of you try this or any other scanner app out with the web client,
I'd love to hear your results!
