Speaking as someone who works for a site that doesn't use the example views and who maintains custom IDL entries for custom report views, I say we remove the IDL entries for the examples. We could add them in a comment in the examples SQL file for anyone who wants to use them. I think a release note explaining the situation should be enough warning. Because I know not everyone subscribes to every new bug or comment in Launchpad I wanted to mention bug 2115348 here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/2115348 which is about either removing the example reporter extensions from the IDL or including them in the stock install (I think my preference is pretty clear) since on a fresh installation the reporting sources exist but don't work.
I'm hoping everyone that wants to share an opinion has a LaunchPad account, but if not, LP and email is better than only some feedback.
