Port number is likely not the problem here.

Are ejabberd and Evergreen actually running when you attempt to run autogen.sh? You may want to try to stop Evergreen, ejabberd and memcachd and then restart everything in reverse order and watch for errors in logs, just to make sure everything starts and runs properly.

Also, you may want to take a look at http://evergreen-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=troubleshooting:checking_for_errors, and test using srfsh.
