Hello,

The Acquisitions Interest Group decided at the Evergreen Conference in
April to try a new form of member engagement. Rather than holding
quarterly meetings on irc each month an acquisitions bug will be
featured in an email to this list. This will bring more exposure to
some of the acquisitions bugs that have a large impact on acquisitions
libraries and their workflows and allow acquisitions staff to engage
as time permits, rather than at a specified time.

Get involved by testing your system for the bug, indicating on
Launchpad if you’re affected by the bug, and commenting on Launchpad
or through the list if you have further information about the bug or
suggestions about what you’d like to see in a fix.

Have a bug you’d like to see featured as an Acquisitions Bug of the
Month? Please email me at jennifer.pringle at bc.libraries.coop.

July Acq Bug of the Month

Bug
Line Items canceled via EDI or deleted from a purchase order are not
automatically deleting linked bibs/items from catalogue
https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1269574

Description of Bug
When a lineitem is canceled via the ACQ user interface, real copies
and call numbers which were created as a result of the lineitem are
deleted when the lineitem is permanently canceled. Similarly, there is
an org unit setting
"cat.bib.delete_on_no_copy_via_acq_lineitem_cancel", which tells the
ACQ backend to delete the catalog record created from the lineitem if
the record no longer has any viable copies.

However, when cancellation occurs via EDI or when items are deleted
from a purchase order, none of this cleanup takes place. It should.

Additional places in the acq user interface that are not deleting line
items when it should or deleting line items when it shouldn't
If you mark a lineitem temporarily canceled (e.g. backordered) through
the user interface, the real copies are deleted. These copies should
not be deleted when the cancellation reason is configured to keep
debits.
Alternatively, if you mark an acq copy permanently cancelled through
the copies user interface, the real copies are not deleted. These
copies should be deleted.

Desired Resolution / Fix
If the user deletes lineitems with copies attached to them, the system
will prompt that user to ask whether to delete the copies, and act
accordingly. Use the open-ils.acq.lineitem.cancel which would handle
removing the copies/volumes/bibs/holds.
