We’re interested in this as well, and I’m glad you brought it up. I usually start looking for possibilities on IRSpy<http://irspy.indexdata.com/>. The host connection reliability is pretty trustworthy-- you can also test a connection from that site. We’ve added a few targets and dropped a few, and I’ve been able to use that site to verify reliability (or lack thereof).

SCLENDS currently uses Colorado Prospector, LC, New York Public, OCLC (if applicable), San Francisco Public, and University of South Carolina. It’s helpful to have a local university in there for local history-ish things.

Subject: [External] [Evergreen-catalogers] Z39.50 Targets

We use SkyRiver as our primary source of cataloging records and are reasonably happy with it, but we're interested in providing more access to Z39.50 targets for both consortium and library staff.

I'm looking at NC Cardinal's excellent cataloging documentation<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fnccardinalsupport.org%2Findex.php%3Fpg%3Dkb.printer.friendly%26id%3D3%23p51&data=02%7C01%7Cmstroup%40statelibrary.sc.gov%7Cfe97d9f79acc4bb415f808d72647f378%7Ce9f8d01480d84f27b0d6c3d6c085fcdd%7C1%7C0%7C637019962786781492&sdata=YYVr20aSvVNmfPRNPb5EMvw29js6c9N3%2FaDcwI0dbPQ%3D&reserved=0>, which includes several sources from large libraries and library systems -- Milwaukee PL, Sacramento PL, UNC, Cuyahoga County, etc. I'd like to hear more about how other systems are using Z39.50 with targets other than OCLC and SkyRiver. Where do you find the targets -- so many of the lists are out of date. Do you ask for permission to use them and import records? Should we be encouraging more sharing of Z39.50 targets among Evergreen libraries? Any issues you've run into with configurations?

There are a lot of Launchpad bugs with the Z39.50 tag that are New, Wishlist, Undecided, etc., that could use some attention: Launchpad bugs tagged z3950<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fbugs.launchpad.net%2Fevergreen%2F%2Bbugs%3Ffield.tag%3Dz3950&data=02%7C01%7Cmstroup%40statelibrary.sc.gov%7Cfe97d9f79acc4bb415f808d72647f378%7Ce9f8d01480d84f27b0d6c3d6c085fcdd%7C1%7C0%7C637019962786791483&sdata=zZWy43QhrXB9s6TMoYW1z48c1I%2FDPlIIDl9lIoNUnjg%3D&reserved=0>

We're particularly interested in this one: Web client: needs Z39.50 batch search option<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fbugs.launchpad.net%2Fevergreen%2F%2Bbug%2F1798847&data=02%7C01%7Cmstroup%40statelibrary.sc.gov%7Cfe97d9f79acc4bb415f808d72647f378%7Ce9f8d01480d84f27b0d6c3d6c085fcdd%7C1%7C0%7C637019962786791483&sdata=fOf9H5jL%2BAbetuKeOLrGAqtWrN9dZqSVGaVz1vlksi0%3D&reserved=0>
