[Evergreen-catalogers] Multilingual searching in the OPAC

Thanks for your interest in multilingual search, Janet!

Unfortunately, the UI on the advanced search screen isn't great. I agree
that more patrons will be interested in a boolean AND for that field than a
boolean OR. If you know the item_lang(spa)-style syntax, it works really
well, but that seems like a lot to ask of our patrons! Maybe there should
be a launchpad bug to improve the user experience there.

Also, for what it's worth, we found that all the default subfields are a
little over generous. We changed the item_lang record attribute to only
grab from the Lang fixed field, 041$a, 041$d, and 041$e.

Also, here's the announcement that I sent to the catalogers in our
consortium:

You can now search for bilingual books in the catalog! For example, here
is a list of all the books in LBCC's catalog that
contain both English and Portuguese content:
https://libcat.linnbenton.edu/eg/opac/results?query=item_lang%28por%29+%26%26+item_lang%28eng%29&qtype=keyword&fi%3Asearch_format=book&locg=7&detail_record_view=1

Previously, Evergreen thought that every book was in one -- and only
one -- language. You could only search for bilingual materials if you
did some really special cataloging work (for example, LBCC has been
manually putting notes in all the records for our multilingual
materials). Now, you should be able to pull in records, and Evergreen
will know *all* the languages that the item is in without any special
cataloging interventions.

Using this search is a little weird, you have to express the languages
that you're interested in using strings like so: item_lang(eng)
item_lang(spa) -- you can string these together until you have the
exact language combo you're looking for, and then hit search.

Hope this helps!
