[Evergreen-catalogers] Help with importing items and not keeping holdings field (945 or 949)

Hi, Janet,

Thanks. Applying heat sounds like a plan to me! I always check/edit the bib record anyway for errors, etc., so for now it’s not a major deal to have to delete our 949, but one thing less to do would be ideal.

Let’s bug the heck out of the geniuses [and you all truly are!] writing code to make this particular need happen.

Hi Susan and Kate,

This worked in the xul version of Evergreen 2.9. When we moved to the web client the option to remove the 945/949 field when importing items was no longer available. I am going to open a launchpad bug on this. I'll let the EG catalogers list know so you can all apply some heat this afternoon.

Hello,

I’m following this string although I’m not a coder. I agree with Kate, that we at Anderson County Library also load with a 949 and we have to remove it manually. It would be great if the attributes loaded and then our 949 disappeared.

This interests me, as we load with a 949 and then depend on catalogers to remove that field after uploading. It would be nice for it to successfully upload the holdings but not keep the field itself.

Hi Janet,

I'm not seeing a checkbox for keep either. (I'm looking at the
angularized Holdings Import Profile in 3.3 and 3.5) I see a reference
to it in the 2.12 docs but it disappears in the 3.0 docs so maybe the
feature didn't come over to the web client?

You might be able to set the 945 as one the fields that is removed
automatically in MARC Import Remove Fields (Administration -> Server
Administration -> MARC Import Remove Fields). I don't know if the
import process removes the fields before loading holdings or not.

MARC Import Remove Fields is one of the admin pages missing the link
to its secondary page in the newer angular interfaces
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1847781 and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1847800) If you're running
3.3 or newer you may be able to get around this by changing the url
from
yourlibrary/eg2/en-US/staff/admin/server/vandelay/import_bib_trash_group to
yourlibrary/eg/staff/admin/server/vandelay/import_bib_trash_group and
accessing the older interface.

Hope this helps,

Jennifer
