Hi, Mike: Thanks a lot for that info! The MARC/MODS link is very helpful, as is the confirmation that "it's complicated!"

Hi Mary,

The stock primary keyword indexing definition (that is, the General
Keywords) first transforms the MARC to MODS 3.2, and then uses just
about every bit of the content of that MODS record except for what
MODS calls the originInfo element, which contains publisher,
publication dates, and edition information. So, basically everything
textual except for 250, 260, 310, and 321, and various dates and fixed
field code mappings.

However, that doesn't mean those remaining parts are not indexed --
some are explicitly in other stock indexing definitions, and those can
be mapped into the general keyword index though simple configuration
-- and it may very well be the case that NCCardinal has modified the
indexing configuration so that all of what I just described about the
stock, default configuration is incorrect for you. So, the true
answer is "it's complicated, and depends on how your admin has things
set up right now."

You can get more information about how MARC maps to MODS from:
https://www.loc.gov/standards/mods/mods-mapping-3-2.html

Hope that helps,

I searched around in the Evergreen documentation and wiki, but all I found was XML-based information about the indexes which I don't know how to interpret or relate to bib MARC fields... I asked our NC Cardinal consortium folks but they don't have this info.
