[Evergreen-catalogers] Replacement Copies

One other thing to keep in mind is that there could be an open circulation
on the Lost item, which could be affected when the replacement copy is
circulated.

Circulations are linked to items by an item's internal id, not its current
barcode, so the system would see the replacement item as the same item that
the patron lost.

Whether or not this would be a problem depends on how your system is
configured to handle the checkin of lost items. In our system, the library
setting "Void lost item billing when returned" is set to TRUE.

So in our case, if the patron owes a bill for a Lost item, and the barcode
is replaced for the replacement item, checking in the replacement item
would checkin the Lost item from the patron's record and remove the bill.

Your mileage may indeed vary based on your system setup, but it's something
to be aware of.
