That’s exactly what I was about to suggest.  When we were on Voyager we had to add a * before and after the barcode number for the start and stop characters, in order to print barcodes that could be read by a scanner.  I haven’t had to deal with this situation since we moved to Evergreen, but I presume it’s a similar issue.  I hope that will solve your problem.

If the receipts appear to have barcodes on them, but the barcodes don't scan, this might help -- if not, please disregard.

You may need to place a * character before and after the barcode value, like this:

*{{patron.card.barcode}}*
