Hi,

Moving some of the discussion to the governance mailing list so that we don't need to bug Bradley with the wordsmithing.

Begin forwarded message:

The description of the Evergreen project that was used for the Google Summer of Code is probably a good point to start. A version that matches what the other projects have done to describe themselves is:

"The Evergreen Project develops an open source ILS (integrated library system) used by approximately 950 libraries. The software, also called Evergreen, is used by libraries to provide their public catalog interface as well as to manage back-of-house operations such as circulation (checkouts and checkins), acquisition of library materials, and sharing resources among groups of libraries."

A slightly longer version that mentions the distinctive features of Evergreen (and accounts for growth) might be:

"The Evergreen Project develops an open source ILS (integrated library system) used by hundreds of libraries across the world. The software, also called Evergreen, is used by libraries to provide their public catalog interface as well as to manage back-of-house operations such as circulation (checkouts and checkins), acquisition of library materials, and sharing resources among groups of libraries. Evergreen is designed to be scalable and supports library operations ranging from a small high school to large state-wide consortia. Evergreen is released under the GPL."

For reference, the full description as used by GSoC is at http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/org/google/gsoc2011/evergreen_ils.

Any suggestions for the description to provide to the SFC?

Regards,

Galen
