One other data point - checking out an item, checking in an item, and
placing holds works fine with the Debian VMWare image (built on
OpenSRF 0.9 / Evergreen 1.2.1.4, running the 1.2.1.4 staff client on
Windows)- so it doesn't seem to be an problem with the OpenSRF /
Evergreen releases.

I did find at one point that I had to restart the perl services
(osrf_ctl.sh -a restart_perl) because when I listed the processes with
"ps wax" I saw that the Perl processes were defunct. I'm not exactly
sure why they died, but I'm willing to blame VMWare for that one
(running Debian in one VMWare session and Windows in another VMWare
session could be playing heck with CPU cycles on my little laptop).
