[OPEN-ILS-DEV] Looking for information on Vandelay Merge/Overlay Profiles

Hi Jason,

It's funny you should ask on dev, one of my colleagues is seeking
similar assistance in the general list I think.

I suggest taking a peek at the following two places:
<http://markmail.org/message/nodjs2m7e247dqw2>
http://markmail.org/message/nodjs2m7e247dqw2 - is a link to a screenshot
Sitka put together of their merge profiles

http://masslnc.cwmars.org/node/2239 - is a link to MassLNC's example doc
on how to use it.

An odd distinction between the two examples is that the specifications
in Sitka's examples are MARC tag codes, and in MassLNC's examples,
they're the names of bibliographic attributes (presumably with the xpath
linking done in that attributions portion).

We've been experimenting here with tag preservation and replacement
using the raw MARC codes (not names); my understanding right now is that
we can only successfully alter a single tag at a time in merge/overlay
profiles. We're testing the addition of other tags for preservation,
etc. but it's... finicky.

Let us know what you come up with, or I can direct you at our catalogers
to coordinate some more.
