I've been working on a list of how documentation is produced in other open
source projects, but every time I review this list it turns into a question
of "which major open source project does NOT use DocBook" (or DITA, another,
more complex OASIS-approved standard).

point out some all-stars, we can note Linux, Fedora, PostgreSQL, PHP,
TortoiseSVN, Subversion, FreeBSD, Gnome...

The only example I could find of using Drupal for documentation (after an
admittedly quick look) was Drupal itself. (Drupal does have a nice
documentation style guide: http://drupal.org/about/authoring )

Again, all formats/approaches are on the table, and of course, more examples
of using Drupal for documentation are welcome -- I didn't look that long.
DokuWiki is the platform Evergreen is now using, and it has its proponents
as well. (See http://www.dokuwiki.org/users )
