Cheryl,
If the changes you have in mind are major, or potentially controversial, or you're uncertain of their accuracy it would make sense to discuss them on list first. For more minor edits though, I wouldn't worry too much. The nice thing about a wiki is that most edits can be undone if necessary without too much hair pulling. I'm not sure if deleted pages can be revived, but I know you can roll back to an earlier edition of an existing page. :)
