Hi All

Just thought I'd wade in here as one of the original authors of Koha, and
have a little speil.
Koha was indeed created in New Zealand, as a collaboration between Katipo
Communications and Horowhenua Library trust.

It was designed to the specifications of the Library, they didnt and still
dont use MARC .. and since we dont want to be like the other vendors who
tell libraries how to run libraries. We listened to what they wanted and
built a system that did what they needed.

Since it was released, other libraries desired to use Koha with MARC records
so support for a wide variety of MARC formats (MARC , the standard that
isnt:)).
And while it was true what Mike said about the orginisational structure of
Koha being flat, all branches being peers. This is no longer true in the
code that will be version 3.0. Its currently in use in a Library in france,
the feature is called independent branches.

So basically, Koha is a rapidly evolving piece of software, (as im sure
Evergreen is too) so buttoning down exactly what it does at any given point
in time isnt so easy :)

Its New Years day here in New Zealand, so happy New Year, and I hope 2007 is
good to the Evergreen dev team, and Evergreen users.

Chris
